Alkmaar backtrack on Celtic blast as Dutch fans face TV blackout for crucial Europa League playoff

Sheepish AZ have performed a U-turn on their fury at Celtic over a TV blackout – after failing to have their Europa League playoff picked up by Dutch TV.

Fuming Alkmaar questioned why Hoops chiefs couldn’t strike a deal for the play off first leg to be screened live ahead of the game at Celtic Park.

With Celtic holding the rights to the game in Glasgow, the club stated they were "disappointed" that no agreement could be negotiated with a broadcaster in the Netherlands.

Now director Robert Eenhoorn has admitted he can understand the issues that faced their Scottish Premiership counterparts ahead of last Thursday's fixture.

Eenhoorn has now directed his fury at the Eredivise governing body in the Netherlands over the promotion of the game.

A club statement read: “After we received bids for this match, we now understand better why Celtic did not reach an agreement last week.

"There is more than enough serious interest from abroad, but apparently the situation is different with the Dutch channels.

"This development is not good for Dutch football and as far as we are concerned a great challenge for the future director of the NL League.”

Alkmaar have now organised a club TV stream for the decisive fixture, with the side looking to overturn Ange Postecoglou 's sides two-goal advantage from the first leg.

The match will be shown live on Premier Sports 1 in the UK with coverage starting at 6.45pm.
