A mother has admitted killing her five-year-old daughter at their family home in west London.

Martina Madarova, 41, is accused of murdering Aliyah Thomas on September 1, when the young child was found dead by police and paramedics.

Officers rushed to the home in Leyborne Avenue, Ealing, west London, shortly before 1pm, but Aliyah could not be saved.

A post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death as compression of the neck.

At the Old Bailey on Tuesday, Madarova pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility - accepting that she was the person who killed her daughter.

However she denies the charge of murder.

Judge Wendy Joseph QC adjourned the case until January 28 next year.

The defendant, who is a Slovakian national, was remanded into custody.
