SAMUI: After a day off on Thursday, the competitors at the 2018 Samui Regatta returned to racing yesterday.
In the IRC Zero class, a number of boats were over the line resulting in a recall.
At the second attempt, they were away and a fresh 10-15-knot breeze had the boats off in double quick time.
Making the most of their water length, the longest boat in the fleet, Alive from Australia, quickly powered to the front of the class and lead around the course.
After almost three hours of racing, they crossed the line first and with handicaps calculated they were placed second on the day for their best result of the series so far, moving up to second in the overall standings.
Meanwhile, a disappointing fourth place on Wednesday was soon forgotten as THA72 won yesterday’s passage race. They have five wins from six races and have a commanding lead with just one day remaining.
The IRC One class is going down to the wire and a win for Mandrake III from Hong Kong and a second place for Fujin of Australia helped the Hong Kong boat enjoy a two point lead over their nearest rivals, Loco of Singapore, who finished third on the day.
In the Performance Cruising class, a win for Souay 1 of Canada keeps them top of the standings while Thai boats Sail Quest Hi Jinks and Moon Shadow had to settle for second and third respectively.
The annual tournament ends today at the Centara Grand Beach Resort Samui.
