Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris headlines UFC on ESPN 7

A heavyweight contest is expected to headline UFC on ESPN 7 in our nation’s capital.

One-time title challenger Alistair Overeem will take on Walt Harris in the fight card’s main event, two people with knowledge of the pending booking confirmed to MMA Junkie following an initial report from ESPN.com.

UFC on ESPN 7 takes place Dec. 7 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The event’s main card airs live on ESPN.

Overeem (45-17 MMA, 10-6 UFC) returns to action after taking out Aleksei Oleinik in April at UFC on ESPN+ 7. A first-round TKO upped the former Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 champ’s current winning streak to two bouts.

Harris (13-7 MMA, 6-6 UFC) shares a common opponent with Overeem in Oleinik, his former training partner at American Top Team. A 12-second knockout earned him “Performance of the Night” honors last month and left him at 3-1 in his past four outings.

A no contest resulting from a positive drug test prompted Harris to promise a lawsuit against the maker of a company that made a supplement later proven to be tainted with a performance-enhancer.
