Alistair Johnston Celtic 'revelation' as Hoops hero hails Ange Postecoglou winter transfer

Alistair Johnston has been hailed as a 'revelation' since his Celtic arrival.

Ange Postecoglou swooped to snap up the Canada World Cup star as speculation over Josip Juranovic rumbled on. He was pitched in for a quick-fire Hoops debut and has not looked back since with the Croatian since departing the club for a move to the Bundesliga with Union Berlin.

Anthony Ralston is also on the books at the Premiership champions in the right-back role but Johnston has made the position his own with a string of impressive displays. He picked up his first piece of silverware at Parkhead in the League Cup Final win earlier this season and he was once again on form as Celtic defeated Michael Beale's men last weekend in a five-goal thriller at Parkhead to move 12 points clear at the league summit.

A league winners' medal could be won in a matter of weeks while a huge Scottish Cup semi-final with the Light Blues is on the horizon. The winner of that tie will be heavy favourites to lift the famous old trophy and it could cap off a memorable first six months at Celtic.

Frank McAvennie is a big fan of the full-back and says his defensive qualities were there for all to see during the World Cup in Qatar while also heaping huge praise on the winter recruit.

The Celtic hero told Football Insider : “We saw it at the World Cup so we have seen that he can defend.

“Canada were backs to the wall and so you could see his defensive qualities.

“I think he might have been looking at him before then because there is no way he just saw him in the World Cup.

“All these wee mistakes that he has made he will learn from. He has been a revelation since he has come in.”
