Alistair Johnston Celtic exit twist as Prime Minister makes Everton transfer plea

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has issued a transfer plea to Everton amid interest in Celtic defender Alistair Johnston.

The Premier League side were thought to be keen on a move for the defender this summer.

Martin O'Neill previously confirmed David Moyes had called in advance of an approach from Everton over discussing a possible deal.

However, progress has appeared to stall on a rumoured £15m transfer move.

Now, though, the Prime Minister, an Everton supporter, has called on his club to bring in a right-back before the new season.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Mr Burnham said: “The signs are good but there is one thing that I would just ask: ‘Sign a right-back.’

“We need a right-back. Poor old Jake (O’Brien) can’t do another season at right-back.

“He’s a good player, he’s a great centre-back. Buy a right-back.”
