Alisson to miss Everton game as Jurgen Klopp explains Liverpool injury timescale

Jurgen Klopp confirmed Alisson Becker will miss the Merseyside derby as he suggested Liverpool could be without their goalkeeper for up to six weeks.

The Brazil international injured his shoulder during a training session at Melwood on Saturday and was absent as the Reds suffered the heaviest defeat of Klopp's reign with a 7-2 humiliation at Aston Villa.

Alisson's stand-in, Adrian, was at fault for the first goal as the champions suffered an embarrassing reverse at Villa Park, conceding seven goals in a game for the first time since April 1963.

Klopp said Adrian was not to blame for the shocking loss, however, as he warned that Liverpool could have to make do without Alisson for the best part of two months.

"He has no chance to play against Everton," Klopp said.

"But we don't know exactly [how long] in this situation. So it could have been worse this injury and that is for sure.

"We were slightly fortunate but it is not that he can play against Everton.

"I don't want to put a time frame on it but it looks like four weeks could be possible.

"I think six weeks is maybe more likely but I don't know. So we have to further assess this thing and that is how it is.

"But look, not only because of tonight, it is so easy for people to go for Adrian.

"The first goal was not too cool, of course, but apart from that, I don't think he had anything to do with all the other goals pretty much.

"We didn't help him tonight, let me say it like this. So, he is a really good goalie who played 11 games for us last year [at the start of the season] and that is all fine.

"Tonight, our goalie was not the problem, only around the first goal. And the reaction for that first goal was not his problem, it was our problem."

Klopp added: "We have to do that better. It is quite strange when you see games like this.

"I am old enough to know that strange things can happen but I saw all the things that happened tonight and I know that if you lose all these challenges, you will lose football matches.

"And we did that tonight. If you do not protect your own defensive side then you will get in trouble and we got in trouble tonight."
