Alisson Becker watched forward Diogo Jota score a hat-trick for Liverpool and praised the new addition for his impact, but said long-term starter Roberto Firmino has done more than enough to prove his worth.
The Brazilian has been out-of-form of late and has not scored too frequently in 2020 - which was thrown into contrast by Jota’s fast start since joining from Wolves.
However, Jurgen Klopp has long admired Firmino for his work rate, off-the-ball effectiveness and selflessness to allow others to thrive and he has been a key part of Liverpool winning the Premier League and Champions League.
Alisson says the No. 9 has nothing to prove after what he has achieved for the side and that the Reds need competition for places everywhere.
“I don't even need to talk about the importance of Firmino, for everything he has done for the club and everything he has been doing," the goalkeeper told Esporte Interativo.
“He is a very supportive player, who works for the team. We need everyone on their toes to achieve our goals going forward.”
On Jota himself, Alisson has praised his impact on and off the pitch, saying he has fit straight into the group and is contributing to further success, as the Reds look to defend their league crown.
"He is a very hard-working, high quality and humble guy.
“He came to help us and has further proved that our team is not just one player. We have a very strong squad and group.”
Liverpool take on Manchester City at the weekend in the league, where Klopp must choose between Firmino and Jota in the attacking line.
