Alisson may have just made his greatest ever save for Liverpool

The man himself looked close to tears.

After a year of highs and lows for Alisson Becker, this was the most brilliantly bewildering yet.

Given Liverpool's despairing need for late goals at various junctures in this most bizarre of seasons, the sight of Alisson venturing forward in the closing stages has been a depressingly familiar one for Reds fans.

In truth, the goalkeeper's leaving of his post to join the goalmouth scrambles at the other end has been in more hope than expectation.

Watching the Brazil No.1 do it at Anfield, in particular, has been unedifying.

An undignified attempt to salvage something for Liverpool.

An act that some may feel should probably be below them, save for the most extreme of circumstances.

But nothing, absolutely nothing, feels off limits any more during this most surreal of Premier League seasons.

So when Alisson headed home past his opposite number, Sam Johnstone, with just seconds left on the clock to give Liverpool the three points they so desperately needed, it was just the latest incident to baffle.

It's been a year of sorrow and celebration off the pitch for Liverpool's goalkeeper.

A man still mourning the tragic death of his father, Alisson became a father for the third time just last week when his wife gave birth to a boy.

It was something the shot-stopper himself admitted in his post-match interview.

"I am too emotional these last months for everything that happened with me and my life but football is my life," he admitted.

"I hope my father was here to see it. It's for my family and for the boys.

"You cannot explain some things in life."

Alisson's very own Jimmy Glass moment may just have been his biggest save yet for Liverpool.
