Alisson makes 'really tough' admission as Liverpool asked major question

Alisson Becker admits Liverpool have entered a pivotal moment of their season as they continue a "really tough" run of matches.

The Reds were out of action on Boxing Day after the home Premier League game against Leeds United was postponed due to an outbreak of coronavirus in the Leeds squad.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have already played seven games in December with another to come at Leicester City on Tuesday.

And with Carabao Cup and FA Cup commitments meaning there are a further five games in the first 16 days of January, Alisson acknowledges the workload remains heavy during a crucial period.

“Yeah, it’s a really intense moment now and everybody knows how important this moment is for the rest of the season,” said the goalkeeper.

“Can you keep consistency? Can you keep winning these short games that we have, in terms of intervals between each other?

“So it’s really important for us if you look at the table, but we cannot change our focus, we just need to be focused on the next challenge, playing game by game.

"This is what we’ll do and think on the next challenge.”

Liverpool have lost only one of their last 36 games and are challenging on all four fronts, standing in second place in the Premier League table behind Manchester City and through to the Champions League knockout stage and the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

And Alisson, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, said: “So far really good. I believe we are doing a great job here, all the team good performances.

“This period of the season is a really intense period and it’s really a mentality game.

"It’s really tough, physically speaking, but I believe that we are doing really well with these situations, having the results that we need.

"But we still have a lot of things to improve, to keep improving through the season but I’m happy about what we did so far.”
