Alisson injury blow explained by Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss offers Jordan Henderson update

Liverpool star Alisson has been ruled out of the matches against Bournemouth and Atletico Madrid this week.

And the the goalkeeper could face a race against time to be fit for the Merseyside derby on March 16.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed the Brazilian shot-stopper picked up a slight muscle injury to his hip before the FA Cup match against Chelsea and underwent a scan before being ruled out.

The manager also explained that captain Jordan Henderson, who has been out of action since pulling out of the Champions League first-leg against Atletico Madrid, has a chance to return ahead of the Spanish giants visit to Anfield in the second game of the last-16 tie.

When asked if Henderson had a chance to return against Atletico, Klopp said: "Yes, but not for Bournemouth."

The German boss also gave an update to the other injuries among his squad and explained that Xherdan Shaqiri is still not involved.

He added: "Unfortunately, Alisson is out.

"He was hurt in training before the Chelsea game, it was a little incident. We all thought it was nothing and the plan was for him to be on the bench.

"But then we didn't want to take any risk so left him out of the squad. A scan the next day found something so now he is out.

"We will see next week for sure. It is a slight muscle injury in the hip region, you could all do your work still but a professional goalkeeper is slightly different.

"He is not available for tomorrow and then the next week. We have to judge the situation.

"I don't want to say no [for Merseyside derby] but I am not sure. We have to judge the situation next week. After the international break he will be 100% but we will see."
