Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson believes Jordan Pickford made an 'unnecessary movement' in his tackle on Virgil van Dijk which resulted in the defender suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
In the opening stages of the Merseyside derby on October 17, Pickford raced out of his goal and caught Van Dijk high on his knee.
After some treatment, Van Dijk was forced to exit the match while Pickford continued with VAR deciding the challenge was not worthy of a red card.
The failure to send Pickford off and the dangerous nature of the challenge has infuriated Liverpool with Georginio Wijnaldum and manager Jurgen Klopp hitting out at the Everton goalkeeper.
And Alisson has now added his voice to the condemnation of Pickford.
"Every goalkeeper has a different way to play, a different way to move, but on that moment 100 per cent it is not a necessary movement," he told Sky Sports.
"But thinking what I have in my mind when I go for a situation, I go to finish the situation because if I go too soft I know the opponent can score.
"Everyone has their own way to go for the ball. I don't agree with that [Pickford's] way, everybody can see that but yeah it was just an unnecessary moment and movement."
On Friday, Liverpool released a statement confirming the 29-year-old had a successful operation on his knee.
It said: "Virgil van Dijk has undergone surgery on the knee ligament injury he sustained earlier this month.
"The Liverpool defender’s planned operation took place in London and was conducted successfully.
"Van Dijk will now immediately focus on the beginning of his rehabilitation with the support of the Reds’ medical department.
"No timeframe has been placed on the Dutchman’s return to action."
