Alisson Becker rages as Newcastle and Liverpool players left stunned

Thursday's win over Newcastle United was not a vintage Liverpool display by any means, but securing three points is all that will concern Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Reds were given an early scare as former player Jonjo Shelvey broke the deadlock, but the hosts hit back with three goals of their own to claim a vital victory.

All eyes were on Mohamed Salah once again as he continued his incredible goalscoring streak, but there were plenty of other moments that went unnoticed at Anfield.

Mike Dean up to old tricks

Premier League referee Mike Dean is someone who certainly divides opinion among football supporters.

Whether being spotted celebrating wins of his beloved Tranmere Rovers or handing out no-look yellow cards, the 53-year-old is often a talking point.

Thursday's match at Anfield was no different as the Wirral-born official found himself at the centre of a number of key decisions in the game.

Dean allowed Liverpool to play on when the Magpies' midfielder Isaac Hayden was down with a suspected head injury, which proved controversial as the Reds went on to score with him down.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was furious with this decision after the match and said he couldn't understand Dean's decision to allow play to continue.

The away fans in attendance were also fed up with his performance and made that particularly clear with their chant of 'Mike Dean, it's all about you'.

One call the man in the middle got spot on, however, was his advantage which led to Liverpool's second goal of the game.

Defender Fabian Schar's challenge on Sadio Mane could easily have been pulled back, but the Reds ended up scoring seconds later through Salah.

After recognising his effective advantage, Dean continued his renowned habit of celebrating a correct call as he headed back to the centre circle with a spring in his step.

Never change, Mike.

Kit confusion

Just what was the thinking behind this one?

Newcastle’s decision to wear their blue away kit was an interesting choice, having been expected to wear their traditional black and white home strip for this match.

The official matchday teamsheet had Howe’s side down as the side in ‘black and white shirts’, but clearly the Magpies had other ideas.

Strangely, the Toon Army had won their home kit on their previous four visits to Anfield but opted to switch things up on this occasion.

A similar scenario occurred during the 2015/16 season when Newcastle made the trip to Merseyside sporting a white away shirt.

Alexander-Arnold stuns team-mates and opponents

Alexander-Arnold’s goal was something out of the Steven Gerrard catalogue.

The Liverpool right-back produced a spectacular strike to make sure of three points late on, producing various reactions from those watching on.

Thiago was left stunned as he watched the ball hit the back of the net at speed, holding his hands on his head after witnessing the wonder goal.

Newcastle midfielder Jacob Murphy was also taken aback by this effort, and was pictured with his hands on his hips in disbelief before turning to team-mate Callum Wilson and simply saying ‘F***’.

Alisson fumes as Shelvey eyes second

There were times in the second-half, with the score still at 2-1, where Newcastle could sense a way back into the game.

Liverpool had to remain switched on throughout proceedings to ensure this was not possible, which Alisson was very keen to remind his team-mates of.

The visitors had a great opportunity to grab an equaliser in the 70th minute of the match after Jordan Henderson gave away a free-kick on the edge of the area, presenting Shelvey with the chance to score his second of the evening.

As the former Liverpool midfielder readied himself, Alisson could be seen barking out orders to those in the wall for the Reds and losing his temper as his instructions were seemingly overlooked.

Despite Shelvey’s effort going off target in the end, Alisson continued to make clear he was unhappy with his team and called for concentration.
