Alisson Becker not in Liverpool squad as two young keepers named on bench

Alisson Becker will miss Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United this evening.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is absent following the death of his father earlier in the week.

With deputy Caoimhin Kelleher injured, it means Adrian is back between the sticks for the game at Bramall Lane for his first appearance since the Champions League win at Ajax on October 21.

Liverpool’s lack of goalkeeping options means youngster Jakub Ojrzynski is joined on the bench by deadline day signing Liam Hughes, who played in the under-23’s 4-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

The only other change to the team that started against Everton last weekend sees Nat Phillips come in at centre-back alongside Ozan Kabak in place of the injured Jordan Henderson.

Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the full-backs, with Gini Wijnaldum skippering the side in a midfield that also includes Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino continue up front.

But while James Milner has returned to the squad, the game has been deemed too early for Fabinho, who is not on the bench. Diogo Jota also misses out through illness.

Former Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster is among the substitutes for Sheffield United.

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Kabak, Phillips, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Thiago, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Subs: Ojrzynski, Milner, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Origi, R Williams, N Williams, Hughes.
