Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker says he will not return to his homeland of Brazil when the season has finished, due to the concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The coronavirus outbreak has affected people across the globe, with many countries going into lockdown to prevent the spread of the disease.
With the Premier League season finishing today, many players would usually jet off to their favourite parts of the world for a well-earned break.
However, with COVID-19 still causing problems in Alisson’s home country, the Reds stopper insists he will not visit when the league season is concluded.
“They obviously recommended avoiding Brazil, as the country is on the apex of the pandemic," Alisson is quoted telling First Post.
"I would not go anyway, even with their green light, as it would be a risk for my family.
“So we will wait for things to get better before visiting family and friends.”
Earlier this week saw Liverpool officially be crowned as Premier League champions, but they had to do it in an empty Anfield with no supporters allowed inside the stadium.
Alisson says it was disappointing not to celebrate properly with supporters, but has promised a big celebration when the time is right.
“The absence of our fans is the first thing we missed," said Alisson.
"We will not have the traditional parade as happened after we won the Champions League title. That was incredible, almost one million people were there, something unforgettable.
"However, the time will come and we will celebrate properly with our fans. Hopefully things will get better soon with a vaccine and life can return to normal.”
