Alisson Becker absence explained as Caoimhin Kelleher starts for Liverpool against Ajax

Caoimhin Kelleher deputises for Alisson Becker in goal as Liverpool aim to secure a place in the Champions League knockout stages at home to Ajax.

Becker misses out as a precaution due to a tight leg muscle with the Brazilian left out of the squad entirely ahead of the visit of Wolves on Saturday.

Ireland Under-21 international Kelleher makes his first start in the Champions League with Adrian part of the substitutes bench.

Joel Matip returns in defence to partner Fabinho with Neco Williams continuing at right-back and Andy Robertson on the left.

In midfield, captain Jordan Henderson is welcomed back into the team alongside Curtis Jones and Gini Wijnaldum as manager Jurgen Klopp reverts back to a 4-3-3 formation.

Roberto Firmino makes way as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota are named in the front three.

A draw against the Eredivisie side sends the Reds through to the last 16 for the fourth straight season.

Liverpool: Kelleher; N Williams, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Salah, Mane, Jota.

Subs: Adrian, Firmino, Minamino, Tsimikas, Origi, R Williams, Cain, Clarkson, Jaros.
