Alison Steadman discusses the future of Gavin and Stacey on This Morning

Gavin and Stacey star Alison Steadman appeared on This Morning to discuss Gavin and Stacey

Alison, who plays Gavin's mum Pamela, joined the rest of the cast for a special Christmas reunion show, which aired on Christmas Day 2019.

The return of the series at the end of last year had millions of viewers tune in to watch it, with many desperate for the cast to air more episodes.

Alison was quizzed by Eamonn, on behalf of the entire nation it would seem, if Gavin and Stacey would return.

Responding, Alison said: "Honestly I've no idea, I would doubt it, only because James [Corden] is in America and Ruth [Jones] is so busy writing novels and plays, so I doubt it."

When asked if another Christmas special could be on the cards, following the success of the last one, Alison said: "A special would be amazing, but we'll see."

While Alison would be all for another special, what have the rest of the Gavin and Stacey cast said about the show?

James Corden

Following the Christmas special, James Corden, who plays Smithie, gave a brutally honest answer on the Oscars 2020 red carpet.

He said: "I'm being completely honest, there are no plans to do any more because a lot of it is about time and distance.

"I think Ruth [Jones] and I, if we ever were going to do any we would approach it in the same manner we did the last one, to try and just do it on our own and see if we felt we had something that wouldn't ruin it.

"Because it's all well and good people saying that they would like another one, and that is hugely flattering, but they only want one that doesn't tarnish it in any way.

"So we're going to really try our best to give it some thought at the least, but there is no plans - as it stands right now - to ever make another one."

Ruth Jones

Speaking at the National Television Awards, Ruth Jones, or Nessa as she's known, echoed a similar thing.

She said: "We don't have any plans at all (for a new series). That's the truth.

"We still have the same situation, which is that James and I live on different continents, so getting together to write is very difficult, so who knows? At the moment there are no plans."

Rob Brydon

Uncle Bryn actually said he didn't want to do another episode.

Speaking to Heat at the National Television Awards: "There are no plans whatsoever and personally I would say leave it where it is, with people wanting more

"It's always my instinct and I said that before this special and I was very surprised then to see that they had written it’

"Everyone is saying 'you must want to do more' but I'd much rather leave it on a high and it's really hard to come back after 10 years and to make something as popular as it has been because you can get it wrong."
