Alison Spittle wears podcast criticism as a 'badge of honour' after politicians hit out at rude content

Comedian Alison Spittle said she wears criticism of her podcast as a “badge of honour” after politicians hit out at its rude content.

She recently launched The Wheel Of Misfortune on the BBC with fellow comedian Fern Brady, which sees the pair share their funniest, most embarrassing stories.

Alison said the podcast has been a rousing success, adding the user submission element of the show makes it like a ruder version of RTE’s Liveline.

She told the Irish Mirror: “It’s been getting good reactions and built an audience.

“We have a lot of regular people that send in voice notes it feels like Joe Duffy’s Liveline except people talk about pissing their pants.

“The BBC have been brilliant, they’ve been so supportive.”

However bosses recently came under fire from prudish Tory MPs who hit out at the public broadcaster for funding shows they deemed as “offensive”.

Alison, 31, said the story only added to the publicity of her project.

She added: “I fully understand. My grandad listens to the podcast and he’s in his early 80s and I told him, ‘Don’t listen to it’.

“You don’t want to hear about your granddaughter fishing a used condom off the roof.”
