Alison Hammond has shared the heartbreaking news of her father’s death on Instagram.
The much-loved member of the This Morning team announced this morning that her dad, Clifford Hammond, died in Jamaica last week.
Sharing a picture of her dad, Hammond wrote: “I’m saddened that I won’t be able to make his funeral and saddened that he wasn’t part of my life as much as I would have liked but I still have a sense of loss and emptiness.
“Sleep well Daddy, love leaves a memory no one can steal . RIP.”
Hammond’s This Morning colleagues shared their condolences with Holly Willoughby writing: “Sending so much love.”
“Sad to hear that darling....sending you love & a huge hug,” wrote Ruth Langsford, while Eamonn Holmes posted three praying hands emojis.
The sad news comes after Hammond mentioned her father in an impassioned, tearful speech on the death of George Floyd.
Speaking over the phone, she told presenters Willoughby and Philip Schofield: 'I am a mother to a 15-year-old black boy, so, sorry, when I saw that image of George Floyd, I saw my brothers, saw my father, I saw my son, I saw anybody’s son.
“I was disgusted to my core and it hurt me to the pit of my stomach to think this is 2020 and we're seeing that.”
