Alison Hammond interviewing Mariah Carey on This Morning is as hilarious as you'd expected

Alison Hammond came face to face with a fellow icon on Thursday morning as she interviewed Mariah Carey on This Morning.

The presenter and the pop icon met and talked all things festive to mark the 25th anniversary of Carey's hit All I Want for Christmas is You.

During the interview, Hammond showed off her Carey-themed t-shirt, which was emblazoned with the song’s title - but the popstar spotted a small problem with it.

Carey then said: “This is so sweet. I love it, but can I say I do have my own merch that is not the bootleg one."

Joker: Carey joked Alison was

The pair also made Christmas cards together and Carey invited Hammond and her son over to her house for the holiday.

Carey said: “If you were to come and hang out with me and my extended family…”

To which Hammond questioned: “Really? When’s that happening?”

Carey replied: “It’s happening at the end of the month in Aspen.”

Hammond then asked: “Am I coming?” to which Carey said: “Of course. You have to come and be on a two-horse open sleigh ride.”

Later on, Hammond sang Carey a Christmas song she had written – despite Carey’s objections to hearing it.

When she had finished singing, Carey joked: “Are you mocking me Alison? After I made this card for you and everything? It’s [Alison’s song] fabulous.”

Hammond then gave Carey a personalised Christmas present of a t-shirt, which had written on it ‘All I Want for Christmas Is Alison’.

However, after the interview it transpired that the singer gave Hammond her home address in LA as the North Pole.

Back in the studio, Hammond told co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield: “I was so nervous…I just thought she was really nice, a really lovely lady.”

From Monday January 6, This Morning airs from the new time of 10am until 12.30pm.
