Alison Hammond explains 'crazy' way she protects herself on street

Alison Hammond has revealed how she protects herself when she feels vulnerable walking down the street.

Alison appeared on This Morning today alongside fellow host Rochelle Humes.

The pair were speaking with Gyles Brandreth and Elizabeth Day about the day's top headlines and one of them was that half of women feel vulnerable when walking alone at night.

The panel all said they thought it would be more women as they had all felt concerned at some point in their lives.

Alison then explained what she did when she felt worried or vulnerable out in public.

She said: "Sometimes I pretend to walk like a man, I know it sounds crazy but when I'm in protection mode and feel threatened in any way I put my hood up if I've got a hoodie and I will start walking like a bloke, so that I can protect myself.

"But really and truly if I'm honest with you if someone tried to kidnap me I'd just go and be a dead weight.

"I'd be like try and kidnap me, seriously."

Panellist Gyles Brandreth laughed at Alison's comments but said: "It's such a serious issue and I don't know one woman, I have a wife, two daughters, a grandaughter, I don't know a woman who does not feel nervous on the street."
