Alison Hammond defends Meghan Markle’s behaviour at palace during mental health struggles

Alison Hammond has defended Meghan Markle on This Morning, after a royal expert said the Duke and Duchess had been accused of bullying.

The 47-year-old presenter spoke out in support of Meghan and Prince Harry, especially after Meghan had detailed her severe mental health struggles in their new Netflix documentary.

As Alison and her co-host Dermot O’Leary got locked into a spirited debate with royal correspondent Camilla Tominey about the latest bombshells, Alison took a moment to stand up for Meghan.

Camilla explained that in the past the royal household had accused Meghan and Harry of “bullying” behind the scenes, and said the documentary was “one-sided” as it only told their version of events.

However, Alison was quick to support the former Suits actress, as she pointed out that people aren’t the best version of themselves, when they’re suffering with severe depression.

“Obviously when all of this happened, [Meghan] was going through mental health issues,” Alison began, “and I’m sure when you’re going through mental health issues, you’re not going to be the nicest behind the scenes and that could come across as bullying to some people.”

An investigation was launched in March 2021 into the claims of bullying by past and present employees, and Meghan strongly denied all the allegations.

The findings from the review were never released, as the Royal family said they wanted to “avoid war” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In the final three episodes of Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, the couple also revealed the A-List star who reached out after their Oprah Winfrey interview, Beyoncé.

Beyonce just text,” Meghan said, as a shocked Harry replied: “Shut up. Just checking in?”

“Just checking in,” she continued with a giggle, “I still can’t believe she knows who I am.

“She said she wants me to feel safe and protected. She admires and respects my bravery and vulnerability. And she thinks I was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed.”

“That’s well said,” Harry responded.

All six episodes of Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal is available to stream now on Netflix.
