Alison Hammond announces Weight Watchers' ambassador role as she vows to get healthy

Alison Hammond is better known as the funny and bubbly roving reporter for This Morning, but she's just bagged herself a new role.

The ITV presenter has been unveiled as a new ambassador for Weight Watchers, as she plans to embark on a healthier way of life.

Alison, 44, who says her busy lifestyle often means she turns to unhealthy options or not having time for exercise, wants to prioritise her health for her 13-year-old son Aiden.

The mum-of-one said that while she expects to lose weight on her journey, for her it's not her ultimate goal.

Alison, who had a gastric band fitted in 2006 that she said her body rejected, wants to go about her change in lifestyle the right way.

"My WW journey is focused on getting healthier for myself. I feel rubbish when I don’t eat properly or exercise and WW helps me with what I eat and do."

She added: "I know I’ll also lose weight by following the WW programme, but that’s not the be-all and end-all for me.

"I want my journey to empower others to think about making changes to their lifestyle to become the best version of themselves."

Alison has said in the past that she was 'embarrassed' about her frame, which she estimated a few years ago was around a size 20.

Speaking in Bella magazine in 2016 the presenter said: "I know how much I weigh, but I'm so embarrassed by it I can’t say. I'm 20-something stone.

"It's the one thing in my life that I feel like I can't achieve. When you get really big like me, you don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.

"I need to do it in small stages. If I just try and live healthily and drink lots of water, the weight loss will come. If I lose one or two stone, it’s not going to be obvious to anybody, but I'll feel better in myself."

She said of her WW role: "It’s been 17 years since I began working in TV, and I’m busier than ever, especially juggling my duties as a mum.

"WW is the only programme that works for me, with the Online WW Coach there for support whenever you need it, 24 hours a day."
