Ali McCann Celtic scouting mission confirmed as John Kennedy talks up St Johnstone star

John Kennedy has confirmed that Celtic have their eye on St Johnstone’s Ali McCann.

The Hoops watched the Northern Irish midfielder at the weekend as the Saints booked their place in the Scottish Cup final with a 2-1 win over St Mirren at Hampden.

And they’ll get an even closer look tonight when the Perth club visit Celtic Park for the penultimate Premiership game of the season.

McCann, has has been nominated for the SPFA Young Player of the Year Award, has been a stand out this season as Callum Davidson’s team won the Betfred Cup, secure a top six finish and gave themselves a great chance of winning another trophy.

Kennedy admitted that McCann is a player that’s impressed him this season and fits the profile of player that a club like Celtic should always be looking at.

He said: "I think watching him from afar, he's an impressive young player who has improved with the exposure of first-team football.

"One thing for Celtic is, we always have to keep our eye on the best young talents in Scotland, that's the first point.

"In terms of where you would want to scout, if there's good young players in Scotland, then you want to make sure you know about them. He's obviously one we know well of. There's no decision over squads or anything but he's certainly a good, talented young player.

"It's good for Scottish football having a player like that coming through."
