Ali Kashif Jan, Pakistani handler of 2016 Pathankot air base attack, designated as terrorist

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has designated Ali Kashif Jan, the Pakistani handler of the 2016 terror attack on the Pathankot airbase, as a “terrorist” under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act).

Jan alias Jan Ali Kashif is the third Pakistani to have been designated as a terrorist by the Central government in the last five days. So far, 34 individuals have been designated as terrorists

The MHA said in a notification than Jan was the handler of the Pathankot attack in January 2016 in which seven security personnel and one civilian were killed. He is also an accused in various cases registered and being investigated by the National Investigation Agency. He had been declared a proclaimed offender in these cases.

Jan continues to operate from Jaish-e-Mohammed launching pads located in Pakistan and was involved in the recruitment of cadres, and coordinated attack plans at targets in India, the MHA notification said.
