Algerian striker Hillal Soudani gives Nottingham Forest welcome injury boost

Hillal Soudani looks to be nearing his Nottingham Forest comeback, after missing the majority of the season through injury.

The Algerian striker enjoyed a bright start to his career at the City Ground, before injuring his knee in the Carabao Cup defeat at Burton Albion at the end of October, but has now returned to Nottingham in a bid to step up his rehabilitation around his teammates.

Soudani had been away in Qatar at the Aspire Centre where he spent two months recovering from that injury receiving specialist treatment.

He enjoyed a fine start to his career at Forest, following his summer move from Dinamo Zagreb, scoring the City Ground winner over Reading with a fine, curling effort, before netting the equaliser at Wigan in a 2-2 draw - but he then spent a month on the sidelines through a knee injury, before his setback in Staffordshire.

It remains doubtful the 31-year-old will return to action before the end of the season with just four games remaining, however, with the club hoping he’ll be fit to take his place in pre-season training at the beginning of July.

Soudani’s return provides another injury boost to the Reds, with Michael Dawson and Tobias Figueiredo both taking part in training at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

History firmly against Nottingham Forest when they face Sheffield United on Good Friday

Portuguese defender Figueiredo stepped up his comeback recently, playing an hour in the Reds’ 2-1 Under-23s win over Burnley earlier this month.

Boss Martin O'Neill has also been able to call upon Sam Byram in the last two games, after the West Ham loanee recovered from his cruciate knee ligament injury picked up in the early season win over Newcastle.
