Algeria's Public Prosecution ordered a three-year jail term against activist Karim Tabbou, however, some attorneys are considering the possibility to benefit from the amnesty covering more than 5,000 prisoners.

Also, the court of Sidi Mohamed in Algiers started on Thursday to look into the case of Ibrahim Daouadji who was imprisoned several times on political grounds.

He was arrested on March 15, in Mostaganem where he lives. The court accused him of "insulting statutory body" after he appeared in a video slamming the president. Daouadji also faces charges of distributing flyers that undermine national unity.

These two charges relate to his social media posts and his participation in protests.

Daouadji's attorneys criticized bringing him to trial in the capital, describing it as an illegal act, claiming that his case should have been handled by the court of Mostaganem. They affirmed that all the charges are political and related to his popular movement activity.

The prosecution representative said that Daouadji jeopardized the public security and represented a threat to the country’s stability because he encouraged people to rebel against authorities.

Further, a parliamentarian defending the Hirak detainees said that Sidi Mohamed Court postponed on Thursday the trial of 12 protesters till the 7th of May. All of them are facing charges of "undermining national unity."

Notably, the Hirak halted protests three weeks ago due to the current health condition in the country.
