Alfredo Morelos will ignore Rangers guidelines and continue to be a law unto himself - Hotline

The news Rangers have drawn up a hardline on-field code of conduct to try and eradicate needless suspensions was welcomed by Light Blue fans.

But many fear the fresh charter on bad behaviour won't act as a deterrent for one particular Ibrox star.

David Ward, Glasgow, said: "James Tavernier said the 12 red cards cost Rangers badly in the last campaign but I don't believe Alfredo Morelos will sign up to the new guidelines as he's a law unto himself.

"His awful disciplinary record is the reason potential buyers see him as damaged goods and I've no doubt he'll rack up the suspensions once the season gets underway. It's a selfish attitude which won't change."

Graeme Innes, Motherwell, said: " Steven Gerrard should read the riot act to Morelos before a ball is kicked as he's a good player but also a huge liability due to his petulance and being too easily wound up.

"Tavernier is right to say the amount of red cards badly damaged our campaign and we need to eradicate the needless suspensions.

"Anyone who doesn't toe the line should be shown the door and that includes Morelos as I can't suffer another campaign like the last one."

Harry Coyle, Dumbarton, said: "Poor discipline has been a major issue for Rangers over the years and I don't believe hitting players in the pocket for bookings and red cards works. I hope Gerrard has written into the conduct charter than anyone who falls foul of the new rules has to undertake community and charity work which includes hospital visits.

"Taking money of players doesn't work, taking their free time off them will."

Dougie Allison, Fauldhouse, said: “Tavernier said Rangers need to heed the warnings from last year, yet the new guy Sheyi Ojo is telling everyone what they are going to do. I suggest Tavernier as captain gets everybody together and tells them the players to keep their mouths shut and do their talking on the park.  Last season Scott Brown and the rest of Celtic players said nothing and laughed when they beat them. Rangers should learn from that."

Staying Old Firm issues.

Joe O'Rourke, Port Glasgow, said: “I’m a Celtic fan and a little concerned by the quality of signings at Rangers. They are scoring goals all across the team and we need some major signings to ensure ten-in-a-row is secured."

Stephen Johnstone Ardentinny, said: “Neil Lennon’s challenged Craig Gordon to be Celtic’s number one but we’d be better off with Flash Gordon. He’s past his sell buy date and we won’t go anywhere with him in goal.”

Alfie Mullin, London, said: "Celtic fans shouldn't complain about their new third strip. I think it suits them and is appropriate, a rotten strip for a rotten team."

Now a couple of unhappy Kilmarnock fans.

James McClean, Isle of Bute, said: “I really can’t believe we are trying to sign Lennard Sowah who was released by Hearts and Hamilton. It just shows how far our ambitions have dropped from last season already. We have signed one player, a goalkeeper. Sunday will be a cricket score against Rangers, maybe then something will be done first thing Monday morning, I certainly hope so."

James Murray, emailed: “There's only a few days before we play Rangers and have lost all respect throughout the football fraternity. We lost four creative players at the end of last season and signed one outfield player and now we read the manager's considering signing a utility player who was dumped by Hamilton. What about all the Italian contacts this manager suggested he would bring?"

Ronnie Swan, Lochee, said: "Dundee United need to sign a goalkeeper, a central defender, a left back and a winger and we need them all before Saturday's opener against Inverness. Robbie Neilson's head is already on the chopping block as I predict much misery ahead."

And finally.

Steven Richardson , emailed: “It was a great atmosphere at Murrayfield on Sunday for Liverpool's friendly against Napoli.

"It also shows what people think of Scottish football when a friendly between two teams not from Scotland bring in over 4000 more punters than Celtic's League Cup semi-final against Hearts at the stadium last October."
