Alfredo Morelos wants Rangers exit claims Davie Provan as he delivers stinging Steven Gerrard assessment

Pundit Davie Provan believes Alfredo Morelos wants to leave Rangers after their Champions League exit.

The 65-year-old also accused Steven Gerrard and his players of letting down supporters and chairman Douglas Park in a lengthy rant.

Rangers missed out on a significant financial windfall after Malmo knocked then out the Champions League and Provan questioned how Park felt after his investment into the club.

Colombian striker Morelos scored at Ibrox on Tuesday but former Celtic man Provan insists Rangers need to cash in as he wants to leave.

“He wants out,” Proven proclaimed on Go Radio. “He’s said he wants to play in a bigger league and with Rangers out of the Champions League - I don’t see what’s there for Morelos to stimulate him now.

“He’s won the league title in Scotland. I think if Rangers had qualified for the group stages of the Champions League then that might have been attractive enough for him to go again.

“I’m not sure there is enough here to motivate him and he’s already on record, saying that he wants to play in a bigger league.

“It would also make sense, for me, for Rangers to take some money. All they’ve been doing is shelling out on players.

“In the same way that Celtic are selling [Odsonne] Edouard, these players come to Scotland for a reason - they don’t come for the weather.

“They see it as a stepping stone to English football.”

Rangers were in the ascendancy at half-time against Malmo after Morelos' opener levelled the aggregate score.

The Swedish side were also reduced to ten men when Bonke Innocent was sent off but Rangers couldn't capitalise.

Antonio Colak bagged a brace to knock Rangers out and Provan insists they let down their own supporters at a packed Ibrox.

“There are no excuses for Rangers - they blew it," Proved added. "They were a player up and a goal up in front of 50,000 spectators and they blew it.

“I’d love to know what Douglas Park’s private thoughts are because this is a guy who has been shovelling money into the club to support Steven Gerrard.

“He must have thought that this was the moment where we’d get to within one more tie of the Champions League group stages.

“What a financial windfall that would have been for Rangers but Steven Gerrard and his players have let, not just Douglas Park, but the Rangers support down - they bottled it.”
