Alfredo Morelos 'wanted' by Atletico Madrid as Spanish giants prepare Rangers transfer battle with Saint-Etienne

Rangers face a battle to hold onto star striker Alfredo Morelos with Atletico Madrid lining up a move for him in the summer, according to a report.

The Colombian striker has been a key player for Rangers since moving from HJK three years ago and he's been heavily linked with moves away over the last 18 months.

Disciplinary problems put an end to any hope of a move last summer and it appeared he had settled down this season before two red cards in quick succession were followed by him returning late from a club sanctioned trip home to Colombia.

Steven Gerrard was heavily critical of the striker for that and dropped him as his side crashed out of the Scottish Cup against Hearts.

But it doesn't seem to have put off Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone's men are reportedly planning a bid of upwards of £15m for Morelos in the summer.

They face competition from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne who have watched Morelos on a number of occasions this season, according to Sport.FR.

The 23-year-old has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season but has struggled for form since the winter break.

He's netted just once in the 11 games he has played since after missing the first three matches following the shutdown through suspension.

Morelos has been back in his hometown of Cerete during the coronavirus shutdown and was heavily involved in delivering food parcels to the most vulnerable people in his area.

The Rangers frontman has been helping out in his area and donated £75k of his own money to fight COVID-19.
