Alfredo Morelos transfer warning as Rangers star backed to be Fiorentina success with one big change

Former Celtic star Massimo Donati insists Alfredo Morelos would be a success in Serie A - but only if he sorts his disciplinary issues.

The Colombian striker has been red carded seven times during his Rangers career and has regularly been booked for dissent.

Fiorentina are the latest club to be linked with a big money move for Morelos after Lille had a £16million bid turned down.

It’s unlikely the French side will come back in for him after signing Canadian striker Jonathan David for £27m.

And that leaves Fiorentina with the opportunity to get him in the door if they make a move, but Donati insists he needs to overcome his problems to grab goals in Italy.

He told the Sunday Post: “Moving from the Scottish Premiership to Italy’s Serie A, which is much more technical and tactical, could create difficulties for him.

“I think with the right coach – and, who knows, that could be Giuseppe Ianchini – he could overcome these problems.

“Much would depend on him, on his attitude and his desire to grow.

“One thing that definitely needs to improve is Morelos’ temperament, which has been a problem. During his time at Rangers, he has been sent off several times.

“Leaving his team-mates down to 10 men so often is a problem – bad for him, who can feel guilty, and bad for the team that has to work harder.”

But while there’s been no contact from Fiorentina, Donati - who left his role as a coach at Kilmarnock in the summer - insists he is good enough.

And he reckons that getting on the end of crosses from Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery and youngster Federico Chiesa would make him a huge success.

He added: “I could see this one happen, I really could.

“I know Morelos very well. He is a player who has good technical qualities, in every area of the game.

“But his real strength is his nose for goals. This is a great thing that many more famous forwards than him do not possess.

“I think he could be very happy at Fiorentina as he would play with Federico Chiesa and Franck Ribery, two extraordinary players who could give him many assists.

“With their support, I think he could be a big success in Florence.”
