Alfredo Morelos transfer suitors Lille hit with 4 sanctions as UEFA get tough over FFP

Cash-rich Lille have been sanctioned by UEFA over a series of Financial Fair Play (FFP) infingements.

The news comes amid the Dogues' reported fresh £16m offer for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos as they also also close in on a £27m deal for Gent striker Johnathan David.

Lille have been found guilty of being in deficit of €30m during three consecutive seasons that resulted in the club posting losses of over €100m in 2018.

And now UEFA have imposed four hardline restrictions that could have a telling impact on Christophe Galtier's side in the seasons ahead.

European football's governing body have penalised Lille by ordering them to pay €9m in income from what they make in either the Champions League or Europa League - a figure that will drop by €6m if they regain their financial footing before the 23/24 campaign.

They have also guaranteed they will not be in debt of over €20m ahead of the new season and that figure must be no higher than €10m by 21/22.

And, in what could have a telling impact on their pursuit of the Colombian international, Lille can only name 22 and 23 players in the next two seasons to their UEFA 'A List' instead of the mandated 25.

And they won't be able to register new signings unless the club reaches a net positive in outgoings.

The Ligue 1 side aren't without hope, however, having earned over £140m from the sales of Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal and Victor Osimhen to Napoli respectively.

That transfer kitty could be further strengthened with star defender Gabriel linked with a clutch of clubs over a potential £30m exit.

But highly respected director of football Luis Campos may have to get creative with the fresh sanctions imposed on his side.

Lille released a short statement on the ruling that is set to have wide-reaching implications.

It read: “The financial situation from the 2017/18 season triggered an investigation from the European body and necessitated an agreement between the two parties which the club is satisfied with, judging it to be fair.”
