Alfredo Morelos transfer latest as Rangers striker's long-term admirer 'reactivates' signing interest

Ambitious Rennes have identified Alfredo Morelos as a key signing target this summer - according to a report.

Foot Mercato claim the Ligue 1 side are actively seeking a striker to upgrade their current options of Adrien Hunou, Jordan Siebatcheu and M'Baye Niang.

The publication states Rennes would be willing to splash out £15m for the Colombian international during the transfer window.

But Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson admitted last year that his side would be looking for a fee similar to the £20m Celtic agreed with Lyon to take Moussa Dembele back to France.

Rennes have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old - who netted 29 goals in all competitions for the Ibrox side despite scoring only once after the winter break.

Morelos has stated on numerous occasions that he remains happy in Glasgow but has also made it clear he would like to test himself in either the English Premier League or La Liga.

Ambitious Qatar side Al-Duhail were linked with a money-spinning move earlier this month with the likes of Newcastle also believed to be keen.

Rennes interest in Morelos comes after they were reported to be targeting Serhou Guirassy - a player who was linked with a switch to Ibrox during the January transfer window.

Rangers supporters remain hopeful their talisman remains in place and El Bufalo sent a social media hint by sharing a selection of pictures of himself alongside his manager Steven Gerrard.

The 40-year-old and sporting director Ross Wilson have been working extensively to identify new recruits this summer and have secured a trio of arrivals in Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin.

And the Premiership side have been linked with several strikers, including Livingston forward Lyndon Dykes and Charlton's pending free agent Lyle Taylor.

But Gerrard insists the focus remains on quality rather than quantity as he aims to stop Celtic's bid to secure a record 10th consecutive league title.

He said: "I do anticipate more signings but we have to be patient. It’s going to be a different window. It could be a longer window, so we need to make sure we’re right when we do make the move and we’re going for the right type of player.

“It’s more, ‘Can we
identify players that
are going to make the
11 stronger?’

“We know this is a unique situation. I’m happy with what I’m hearing. We’re okay and I’m told if the right players become available and it makes financial sense, then we’ll do it.
