Alfredo Morelos transfer latest as Rangers braced for cash-rich Lille to make move

Rangers are bracing themselves for a move from Lille for talisman striker Alfredo Morelos.

Reports from France claim the Ligue 1 outfit have agreed personal terms with the Colombian, less than a week before the start of the new Premiership season.

Sources insist the only barrier to a transfer now is the negotiations between the two clubs on a transfer fee.

The Light Blues believe Morelos is worth at least £20million but Lille, who finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season, are cash rich.

They are about to bank £60m for 21-year-old Nigerian frontman Victor Osimhen after agreeing to sell him to Serie A side Napoli.

Lille coach Christophe Galtier sees Morelos, 24, as the ideal replacement after he scored 77 goals in three years at Rangers, many in high profile European matches.

The decision to sell Morelos on the eve of the new campaign will split opinion among Rangers fans.

For many, he’s their best chance of wrestling the title from Celtic and going on another adventure in the Europa League in the months ahead.

Others reckon it’s time to cash in on a player who cost just £1 million from HJK Helsinki, particularly in light of an appalling disciplinary record that has seen him red carded six times since moving to Ibrox.

The Rangers board will be expected to re-invest much of the money they receive for Morelos and they have been consistently linked this summer with £5 million rated Anderlecht frontman Kemar Roofe.
