Alfredo Morelos transfer claim as Colombian hero floats Real Madrid and Barcelona alternate timeline

In-demand Rangers hero Alfredo Morelos would be preparing to Real Madrid or Barcelona now if he was from Brazil or Argentina - according to Victor Montano.

The South America striker has been strongly linked with a move to Lille, with interest from Spain, Italy and England too, after Rangers splashed out £8.5million on strikers Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.

Colombian international Montano spent 10 years playing his football in France and made over 300 appearances for Montpellier and Rennes.

And he reckons the only thing holding Morelos back from a move to a really top club is the fact he's Colombian.

He said: "I respect very much what Alfredo Morelos has done in Rangers, but if that had been done by an Argentinian or a Brazilian, then teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United would be fighting for him.

"Without being disrespectful to Lille, who are a good team who will benefit his career if he moves there, as a Colombian, you will always have to take twice as long and work twice as hard to reach the elite clubs.

"Alfredo is a player who will guarantee you 20 goals a season. What team wouldn't want that?

"Lille like signing up young players up as a protect. Their manager, Christophe Galtier, loves South American players and has a team that will be competing at the top in France."
