Alfredo Morelos sits out as Rangers striker watches Colombia lose controversial Brazil clash amid Porto transfer interest

Alfredo Morelos was left out of the Colombia squad as his side went down to Brazil amid huge Copa America controversy.

The Rangers striker watched from the side at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium as the hosts grabbed a dramatic later winner in the TENTH minute of injury time through Casemiro.

But Colombia were left fuming at Roberto Firmino’s earlier equaliser which was allowed to stand despite the referee accidentally blocking a Neymar pass which set up the Liverpool star.

Luis Diaz - who stars for Porto who are reportedly set to step up efforts to sign Morelos - had given Colombia the lead with an acrobatic 10th minute opener.

Morelos featured in the previous game, a 2-1 defeat to Peru, as a substitute but there was no place in the squad for him this time.

Boss Reinaldo Rueda instead opted for Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata and River Plate’s Rafael Santos Borre up front, with Atletico Junior man Miguel Borja.

Despite the loss in in Rio de Janeiro, Colombia still secured a place in the quarter finals of the competition and are likely to face Chile or Paraguay.

Morelos has scored one goal in eleven appearances for his country but has struggled for game time and is at the centre of more transfer speculation with Porto keen on landing the 25-year-old.

The Light Blues are looking for around £20 million for the player who played a key role for Steven Gerrard in winning the club’s first title in a decade.
