Alfredo Morelos set for Rangers return after Colombia exit as transfer race hots up

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos suffered Copa America disappointment after Colombia crashed out of the tournament at the semi-final stage.

The striker was left in the stands again to round off a frustrating campaign for him where he struggled to get game time and was limited to just nine minutes in the group stage.

Now he'll have a short holiday before returning to Rangers for pre-season ahead of some vital matches early in the season with Champions League qualifiers to begin in a month's time.

The Ibrox side face Livingston in the first Premiership game of the season on July 31 with their European campaign beginning just days later.

Steven Gerrard laid down a challenge to Morelos to come back fighting fit over the weekend as he urged him to be ready to go for the opening days of the season.

It's still unclear if Morelos will definitely be a Rangers player by the time that comes along with Porto seemingly unwilling to give up on their bid to sign him.

Reports in Portugal suggest the Ibrox side have rejected an opening offer for Morelos with Porto making a bid of €12m plus add-ons, and Rangers wanting at least €5m more than that up front.

Rangers turned down £16m for him last summer from Lille and Ekrem Konur has reported that Porto also included a 20 per cent sell on fee in their offer but Rangers were unwilling to budge on their asking price.
