Alfredo Morelos 'set' for Newcastle as Rafa Benitez eyes £20m deal for Rangers striker

Newcastle will launch a £20million bid for Alfredo Morelos - according to reports in Colombia.

The striker has been linked with numerous clubs after an incredible goalscoring season for Rangers that was only hampered by his five red cards.

And now DonBalon claim Rafa Benitez wants to take the goal machine to St James' Park this summer.

They also say Newcastle want to sign Morelos' international team-mate Davinson Sanchez but are unlikely to be able to afford the transfer fee Tottenham want for him.

The 22-year-old scored 30 goals in 48 games in all competitions for Rangers last season.

Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Leicester have all been linked with moves for him while Rangers turned down bids from China last January.

His form also earned him a call-up to the Colombia squad and he's made three appearances for Carlos Quiroz's side.

He was also expected to be named in the Copa America squad but his red card against Celtic in March meant he only started one more game and Quiroz decided to leave him out.

Newcastle are on the lookout for a new frontman with Salomon Rondon's loan deal from West Brom ending.

The other strikers, Joselu, Dwight Gayle and Yoshiniri Muto are struggling to make their name at the club.

And now Morelos has become the latest target to solve that problem with Benitez impressed with his style of play.

The Colombian report says it is a 'key objective' to get Morelos if the club is taken over.

Morelos has regularly spoken about his wish to play in a bigger league but signed a new deal with Steven Gerrard's side in March.
