Alfredo Morelos sends defiant Rangers message as striker breaks silence after controversial 'elbow'

Alfredo Morelos insists he will "stay strong" after he escaped a red card with an 'elbow' on Mark Connolly.

The Ibrox striker picked up a booking as he appeared to catch the Dundee United defender in the face as Steven Gerrard's men ran out 2-1 winners at Tannadice.

Morelos has struggled in front of goal this season with seven goals in 22 games - two of which came against Lincoln Red Imps in a Europa League qualifer.

The Colombian's role has changed somewhat this term, however, and his lack of goals has not hurt Rangers with their commanding lead at the top of the Premiership.

But it's Morelos disciplinary issues that have come into question once again as he made contact with Connolly and had no intent to win the ball.

But the forward went to social media to tell fans that he will weather this 'storm'.

He said on Instagram: "Be strong because things will get better. Maybe there is a storm now, but the rain does not last forever."

Rangers maintained their lead at the top of the Premiership with a hard-fought win in Dundee.

James Tavernier scored a sensational free kick, before setting up Connor Goldson to secure the three points.
