Alfredo Morelos reveals his Rangers confidence surge as Colombian media give El Bufalo a new nickname

In-form Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos insists he is ready to become Colombia's top marksmen.

The striker is set for a starring role with both Radamel Falcao and Duvan Zupata absent for the friendly double-header against Peru and Ecuador and is hoping James Rodriguez can help him land his first goal for his country.

Former boss Dario Sierra insisted at the weekend that Morelos is primed to become his country's top marksmen for years to come and the 23-year-old agrees that he is up to the task.

The forward has netted 22 goals in all competitions and Steven Gerrard insists his main man is going nowhere in January as Rangers look to wrestle the title away from rivals Celtic.

Premier League pair Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are keen but the Rangers boss insists no deal will happen when the window opens next month.

And Colombian media are certainly impressed with Morelos - labelling El Bufalo as Gerrard's 'pearl' as he joins up with Carlos Quieroz's side.

He told El Tiempo : "I am grateful for another opportunity with the national team. Now I have to prove I can do for my country what I have been doing with Rangers. I'm very proud.

"I've scored a lot of goals this season and I'm in a good place - things have improved. It means a great deal for me to keep getting called up for Colombia.

"I see myself as a No.9. Hopefully, being in the same team as players like James Rodriguez will help me score my first goal for my country.

"My greatest asset is goalscoring so it would mean so much to me if I can score in these two games. I just want to contribute as much as I can."
