Alfredo Morelos Rangers 'work rate' slump noted by Alex Rae as he questions Ibrox drop in standards

Disappointed Alex Rae has called for more from Alfredo Morelos as he questioned his effort against Dundee.

It was a hard-fought win for the Premiership league leaders at Dens Park with a moment of skill from the Colombian teeing up Joe Aribo for the only goal.

Despite taking three points, Steven Gerrard 's side came within a Jon McLaughlin penalty save of slipping from top spot in the table.

Former Ibrox midfielder Rae has been left bemused by the drop off from last season, where his former side cruised to an unbeaten league campaign.

He singled out El Bufalo as one of the main men who has notably let his standard slip this term.

Rae told Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard: "You are looking for players to go on a run, and you are looking for strikers to get goals on a regular basis.

'Again, I thought Alfredo Morelos was poor. I thought his general contribution, we can all have bad games, but in terms of his work rate it took him until late in the game when he got smashed, then you see him charging about the pitch.

"Then he is trying to get round and get retribution. I'm not seeing this spark.

"When I look at Rangers from last year to this year they smothered teams. They got right in your face and it was a high press.

"They got the midfield right up and obviously the back line was up as well.

"They just overwhelmed teams and I am not seeing that level of intensity for long periods of the game.

'They have spells where they are dominating and they are carving the opposition open, but it's not for long enough, and I think that will be a source of frustration for Steven Gerrard."
