Alfredo Morelos Rangers transfer update as Lille president swoons over striker's candour

Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed his side are "in the middle of a discussion" for Alfredo Morelos.

Reports emerged on Sunday that the striker had agreed in principle on a move to the Ligue 1 club, but no deal has been struck with Rangers.

With the Premiership season starting on Saturday and Jermain Defoe out injured, manager Steven Gerrard will be keen to hang on to El Bufalo.

Despite that Lille have publicly confirmed negotiations, and insisted that Morelos is keen on the move.

Lopez told RMC Sport: "It's not unusual to have agreements with two or even three players for one role, then after that we see which player combines best with another etc.

"As for Morelos, it's true he's a player who interests us. It's also true that he's interested in LOSC.

"But we're in the middle of a discussion, nothing is done."

Lille are also keen on Gent striker Jonathan David, and Lopez confirmed they're still pursuing the 20-year-old.

He said: "He is a player who we like a lot, whom Luis (Campos, sporting director) knows very well, and who had the courage to declare in the media where he wants to play. Not everyone does that.

"I have a lot of respect for that, and so I don't have to say that the player wants to come to us. It's clear.

"We need to find an agreement between the two clubs, but clearly he's a player we really like."
