Alfredo Morelos Rangers transfer test imminent with £10million Porto bid 'expected'

Porto are set to test Rangers’ resolve by launching a transfer raid for Alfredo Morelos.

The Portuguese giants had been subject to UEFA financial fair play sanctions but those now no longer apply.

And the Scottish Premiership champions are bracing themselves for a £10million bid being made this week, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Gers are thought to be seeking between £15million and £20million for Morelos - a massive profit on the £1million they paid HJK Helsinki for him in 2017.

The Colombian is currently in Brazil on international duty for the Copa America, but his agent Michael Groman was in Portugal last week as clubs circle.

Porto boss Sergio Conceicao has been a long-time admirer of the 25-year-old and has seen first hand what Morelos can do after he scored home and away against Dragoes in the Europa League two years ago.

They were forced to apply a salary cap for the last four years after being found by UEFA to be in breach of financial fair play regulations.

But they are now free to recruit as they please and Morelos is Conceicao’s number one target to replace Moussa Marega after he left for Al-Hilal.

Morelos netted 17 times in 44 appearances last year as Steven Gerrard’s team cruised to the league title.

The carrot of Champions League football at Ibrox could tempt the front man to stay on another season, but that’s something Porto can also offer him.
