Alfredo Morelos Rangers transfer prediction as Neil McCann insists clubs are 'frightened' by dramatic downturn

Neil McCann suspects Alfredo Morelos won't be heading for the Ibrox exit door this summer.

The Rangers striker continues to feature prominently in transfer gossip columns but there's been no significant movement on his future.

The player himself this week insisted he's only focused on the Premiership season ahead, despite reiterating his desire to one day test himself in a top European league.

Former Ibrox star McCann believes Morelos' dramatic downturn in form in the second half of 2019/20 may have sown some hesitancy among potential buyers.

"I think Morelos will stay, actually. I'll be surprised if he goes," he told BBC Sportsound.

"I thought he maybe would've gone last year but he went off the boil and it's maybe frightened a few off.

"But they need somebody up top. (Lyndon) Dykes still on the radar, must be, of Rangers.

"I'm surprised they didn't have a little nibble at (Lawrence) Shankland - a proven goalscorer, maybe not in the Premiership but just a natural goalscorer they could throw in.

"They're talking about wanting to get somebody who's an out-and-out striker."

McCann also insists Rangers must find more goals from wide areas, regardless of whether they add another frontman to the squad.

He continued: "I know Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale like this three up top. They're going to need more goals from the wide areas.

"If they can get more from the wide areas, Ryan Kent, Jordan Jones... I watched him the other day and I think he can find himself.

"I know he's struggled and I know he had a bad injury, trying to do something silly that he regrets.

"I thought he looked bulkier, bigger. If he gets a wee run he's still a really good player to have in the side.

"You've got Greg Stewart, Brandon Barker. But, I still think if they're going to have a go...

"But they're better than what they were when Steven took over and they're a real challenge to Celtic."
