Alfredo Morelos Rangers transfer exit route kept open by Tigres as sports director details 'quality' striker talks

Tigres sporting director Antonio Sancho has lifted the lid on talks with "two or three options" up front with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos reportedly on the radar.

The Mexican club looks set to lose out on top target, Eintracht Frankfurt star Rafael Santos Borre, this month with the Europa League holders being unmoved by a £9.7million offer to take the Colombian from the Bundesliga. Morelos has been named among a list of alternative candidates to Borre boss Diego Cocca, with time rapidly running out on the striker’s Ibrox contract.

Despite being a mainstay of the Rangers starting line-up once again following the arrival of Michael Beale, the 26-year-old has netted just five goals so far this season and it remains unclear if the will be offered a new deal with the Light Blues. As it stands, the Colombia cap is free to negotiate with clubs over a move away from the Scottish Premiership for nothing in the summer.

Rangers could look to recoup a transfer fee and cash in this month, and Tigres have left the door open for a potential swoop this month. Sancho told Tele Diaro that they were in talks with as many as three targets this month to bolster their frontline, and had not just set their sights on bringing Borre to Liga MX.

The Tigres chief said: "We are looking for an option that comes to strengthen the team at the front, as we have always said. We have two or three options, we are in the process.

"We have two or three candidates, and they are all negotiations. It is part of signing players and we have until the end of January to close something.

"We are on schedule. We are looking for quality players. That's how the processes are, there are negotiations. Until the end of this month we have the option (to add) and we are open to everything. I think we have a great squad and it would come to reinforce and shore up."
