Alfredo Morelos Rangers transfer assurance as Dave King insists 'obscene' offer would be rejected

Dave King has backed Steven Gerrard as he insisted Alfredo Morelos will not be sold at any price in January.

The outgoing Rangers chairman believes ending Celtic's stranglehold on the Premiership title would trump even an "obscene" offer for the 22-goal Colombian striker.

After Morelos produced a matchwinning display to fire Rangers into the Betfred Cup Final earlier in November, Gerrard revealed he was "100 per cent confident" his talisman would not leave during the winter window.

And now King , who announced his intention to step down in the New Year, has underlined his manager's stance.

He told Rangers TV: "I see no chance of that.

"And I say that because I'm certainly encouraging the manager not to sell him any price.

"I think, for us, it's more important to win the league title.

"So, if someone comes along and offers even an obscene amount of money, my suggestion would be not to take it - and the manager doesn't want to.

"I see no chance of Morelos being sold, no matter what happens. We need him to compete for the title and I would be extremely uncomfortable, no matter what the money was, at letting Morelos.

"It's fair to say it will not happen."
