Alfredo Morelos post-Rangers chaos continues as Santos manager axed

Santos have sacked manager Diego Aguirre just one day after Alfredo Morelos made his debut for the club.

The former Rangers striker made his first appearance for the Brazilian outfit on Thursday in a 3-0 loss to Cruzeiro.

Morelos had been heralded as a major signing for the struggling club before the match as he finally sealed his next move after leaving Rangers in the summer.

But, now the man who signed him for the club has moved on with four more coaches removed from their roles as the club sit 17th - and in the relegation zone - in the Brazilian top-flight.

Marcelo Fernandes has been put in charge on an interim basis after Aguirre was axed.

A club statement on social media confirmed: "By decision of the Management Committee and the football coordinator, coach Diego Aguirre no longer commands the Santos Futebol Clube professional team.

"The coach was informed of the decision by technical coordinator Alexandre Gallo, on Friday afternoon (15).

"The assistant coaches, Juan Verzeri and Juan Andres Iraola, and the physical trainers Fernando Piñatares and Ignácio Piñatares also leave their positions.

"Santos FC thanks you for the services provided and wishes you good luck in new challenges.

"In the match against Bahia, on Monday (18), Marcelo Fernandes leads the team on an interim basis."
