Alfredo Morelos owes Rangers over 'nonsense' but new strike duo means Steven Gerrard might snub another chance

James McFadden has told Alfredo Morelos to think about what Steven Gerrard has done for his career, quit the "nonsense" and refocus on life at Ibrox.

It has emerged that the striker effectively downed tools on Friday, reacting furiously after finding out he would be left out of the weekend clash with Kilmarnock.

Former Scotland and Everton star McFadden thinks the Colombian is still looking unfit in his appearances so far this season and was not surprised to see him jettisoned from the squad completely.

Morelos is keen on a move to French side Lille who have so far refused to match Rangers ' asking price of £20m for their star forward.

And McFadden points out that if a move doesn't work out, he's now behind Ibrox new boys Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe in the pecking order.

He told Sky Sports: "I think if you look at the history of Alfredo Morelos, he's had a lot of speculation since he joined.

"Every time there has been talk of an offer or interest he seems to get a new contract. I don't think that will happen this time because he will be on very good money as it is.

"And it's time to pay Rangers back whether it is two or three weeks or whatever. However long it takes.

"He owes it to the players, the manager and the fans for having faith in him and putting up with the nonsense that comes with him sometimes, so I think he needs to really knuckle down and see his time out.

"Lille's interest seems to have cooled but I wouldn't be surprised if they come back in. He needs to just sort it out and Rangers, if he he stays, it's just part of management and I'm sure Steven Gerrard will deal with it as he's dealt with it really well so far.

"He's a player, if he's fit and firing you want in your side. But at the minute he's not fit and he's not offering as much to the team. It's given a chance to Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten to come in and show they can work together and that they don't need Morelos."
