Alfredo Morelos' next Rangers target revealed as Steven Gerrard declares striker has ticked his three key boxes

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has his sights set on Europe's premier competition according to manager Steven Gerrard after smashing the club record for goals on the continent.

With a goal in each of his last two Europa League games against Lech Poznan and Benfica, the Colombian levelled then overtook former Light Blues hero Ally McCoist over the last fortnight.

They might have all come in the second-tier competition but with two Champions League spots up for grabs for next season he will have the chance to test himself against the best sides UEFA has to offer.

And despite a slow start to the campaign, perhaps in part due to transfer interest from abroad which Gerrard admitted had turned the 24-year-old's 's head, the manager believes his forward is back to his best.

He said: "Yes, he was very happy after the game about his record-breaking. I think he's got his hunger back and you can see it in his eyes, he wants to go and score more goals in the competition.

"I know he's got dreams and aspirations of playing in the Champions League one day, which is good for him.

"In terms of where he's at, the goals are back, the hunger is back, the sharpness is back.

"I don't really like comparing him to (the Alfredo) of old because it's about the now and what he is offering moving forward.

"But he's definitely in a better place in terms of his form and how he looks. He's smiling and seems happy, which is fantastic for everyone connected with Rangers."
