Alfredo Morelos loan bid 'rejected' by Rangers as Serie A club make late move for Colombian

Rangers have reportedly turned down a dramatic late bid from an Italian side to sign Alfredo Morelos on loan.

The offer would have had a clause to turn the move permanent but Rangers knocked it back immediately because they weren't happy with the finances involved.

The Athletic say the proposal from the Serie A club was an initially loan fee of €2m (£1.8m) and a transfer fee which was less than the last bid rejected by Lille.

The French club had confirmed an offer of £16m for Morelos earlier in the window but after singing Canadian international Jonathan David, they needed to sort out their financial fair play issues.

Fiorentina were heavily linked with a move for Morelos recently but some reports suggest it is Torino who made the loan bid over the weekend.

The 24-year-old has struggled for goals this season after having his head turned by the initial interest from Lille.

Steven Gerrard even left him out of a squad for a game against Kilmarnock and then he was on the bench for games against Hamilton and Dundee United, but he has performed well enough to regain his starting spot.

He's also now in the Colombia squad and is heading for South America to take part in two World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Chile.
